Director, ICAR-CCARI delivered a lecture on “Glorious Journey of Indian Agriculture Post Independence” at Goa College of Agriculture
A special lecture on “Glorious Journey of Indian Agriculture Post Independence” was organized at Goa College of Agriculture for the benefit of students on 30-07-2025. At the outset, Dr. Suresh Kunkalikar, Principal & Dean, Goa College of Agriculture, welcomed the gathering and introduced the guest speaker, Dr. Parveen Kumar, Director, ICAR-CCARI, Goa.
In his lecture, Dr. Parveen Kumar presented an insightful overview of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research and the evolution of Indian agriculture since independence. He highlighted the remarkable growth in total foodgrain production surpassing the population growth ensuring food security for the nation. He also presented comparative statistics on the production of cereals, pulses, millets, oilseeds, horticultural crops, milk, and other key commodities during 1950–51 and the present status, highlighting the significant progress achieved during the last 75 years. He also emphasized the Indian economic growth in terms of infrastructure development, literacy, agricultural exports, and major milestones such as the Green Revolution and White Revolution. The session concluded with an interactive discussion, during which students raised thoughtful questions on various agricultural topics such as khazan land cultivation, production of pulses and millets, natural farming etc. Dr. Govind Parab, Assistant Professor proposed the vote of thanks. A total of 100 students and 10 faculty members of Goa College of Agriculture attended this lecture.
