Interface Meeting Held on Dissemination of Frieswal Cattle in Goa

    An interface meeting focusing on the dissemination of high-quality Frieswal cattle germplasm in Goa was held on 4th July 2025 at the Dr. Verghese Kurien Meeting Hall, ICAR-CCARI, Goa. The meeting brought together the Director and scientists from ICAR-CIRC, Meerut, and ICAR-CCARI, Goa, along with the Director, Deputy Directors, and officials from the Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services, Government of Goa.

The meeting was chaired by Dr. A. K. Mohanty, Director, ICAR-CIRC, Meerut, and presided over by Dr. Parveen Kumar, Director, ICAR-CCARI, Goa. In his welcome address, Dr. Parveen Kumar highlighted the importance of collaboration between ICAR institutes and State Animal Husbandry Departments for the development of the livestock sector in Goa.

In his opening remarks, Dr. A. K. Mohanty outlined the objectives of the meeting and emphasized the need for the wider dissemination of high-quality Frieswal cattle in Goa to enhance milk production and farmer livelihoods in the state.

Dr. Veena Kumar, Director, Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services, Goa, shared that the department currently maintains around 90 Frieswal cattle at its Cattle Breeding Farm, Copardem, Sattari, and expressed the department’s readiness to collaborate further to expand the production and dissemination of Frieswal cattle across Goa.

The meeting also included detailed deliberations from the participants on strengthening collaboration and field-level implementation for effective propagation of Frieswal cattle in Goa.
