Awareness programme organized for farmers under SCSP at Byndoor, Karnataka

 

 

Interaction with Fish Farmer Producer Organization at Byndoor, Karnataka

    An interaction was organized with the team of Matsya Sanjeevini Fish Farmer Producer Organization (FFPO) at Byndoor, in the Udupi coastal district of Karnataka, on 1st June 2025. The FFPO, a recently established initiative, is engaged in a range of activities including fresh fish marketing, fish farming, and the value-added fish products. Currently, the organization comprises 174 members, including 38 women. Shri Ananda Angadi, Managing Director of the FFPO, informed that the organization's activities are presently supported by the Department of Fisheries, Government of Karnataka. Dr. Sreekanth GB, Senior Scientist (FRM) at ICAR-CCARI, interacted with the FFPO team and advised them to diversify their operations. He emphasized the potential for integrated fish farming, integrated multi-trophic aquaculture (IMTA), livestock rearing, and agriculture as complementary activities. During the interaction, FFPO members requested continued technical support and guidance from ICAR-CCARI and expressed their willingness to collaborate in research and extension initiatives. Scientific advisories were provided on mussel culture and cage culture techniques. Dr. Sreekanth also assured the FFPO of scientific and technical assistance in enhancing market access for their products along the coastal belt by facilitating relevant market linkages. Additionally, discussions were held on potential opportunities in crab fattening, poultry and duck farming, and goat rearing. The members conveyed their sincere gratitude to ICAR-CCARI for extending timely guidance and valuable recommendations for their future development.
